Thank you for visiting the Rockingham Forest Trust's Heritage Resource Centre, produced as part of the Heritage Lottery funded project 'People of the Forest'. Much of the information included in this site was developed to provide detailed information and historic mapping of the landscapes, villages and towns in the Rockingham Forest area of Northamptonshire. The Trust's latest project, 'Rose of the Shires', works in other areas of the county and we have expanded the Resource Centre to include historic mapping and reconstruction for the whole of Northamptonshire.
All Rockingham Forest area maps can be accessed through the 'Atlas of the Forest' link. Every village and town within the Forest area can be individually selected through the 'Select a Township' link. The Medieval and 18th century Post Medieval maps for the rest of the county can be accessed by clicking on the 'Atlas of Northamptonshire' link.
The maps and other information included in this site provide a unique insight into the changing landscape of the county over the past 800 years. These pages help to explain how much of what we value in the present landscape originated -something that is essential to understanding how to manage and conserve it for future generations. We hope you enjoy discovering more about Northamptonshire's fascinating past.
